Greetings from the Aspinwall Research Group!

Welcome to our laboratory where biology and chemistry collide.  In the Aspinwall research group, we develop state-of-the-art analytical methodologies to study complex biological processes.  Specifically, we are interested in learning how cells function in response to physiological and pharmacological stimuli, i.e. the signaling pathways within the cell.

Greater understanding of these complex biological pathways will provide increased insight into a number of important disease states, as well as advanced diagnostic and prognostic capabilities for treating and preventing these diseases.  Of particular interest to our group are the insulin-secreting pancreatic b-cell and the parathyroid hormone-secreting chief cell.  In order to investigate these important hormonal systems, we are developing a series of biomimetic, optical and separation-based sensors to simultaneously monitor intracellular signaling and overall cellular function.

We invite you to explore our site, meet our members and join us to perform true bioanalytical chemistry in the sunny Sonoran Desert!   Please feel free to let us know of any questions or comments that you may have: aspinwal@email.arizona.edu.
