Le Chatlier's Principle with Nitrogen Oxides, Demo #6
A good visual demonstration of the effect of temperature on the position of
equilibrium. The demonstration uses sealed 500ml glass bulbs filled with
nitrogen dioxide in equilibrium with dinitrogen tetroxide. Heating a
bulb (internal pressure only 0.5atm) shifts toward nitrogen dioxide (dark
red). Cooling with liquid nitrogen shifts to dinitrogen tetroxide (pure
white solid).
Iron (III) Thiocyanate Ion Equilibria, Demo #34
An equilibrium is set up which has a colored product. Adding either
reactant displaces the equilibrium toward the product (dark red).
Removing either reactant shifts the equilibrium the other way to lighten the
color.
