Financial Responsibility

As a student in any chemistry lab, you will be responsible for a set of equipment in your own locker located in your lab room.  At the beginning of the semester you will "check in" to your locker.  At that time you will sign a locker card accepting responsibility for everything in the locker and the lock.  Throughout the semester, you will borrow and return equipment from and to the satellite Preproom located adjacent to your lab.  At the end of the semester, you will "check out" of your locker and clear your file.  At that time, you will be charged for any missing, broken, or lost equipment.  These charges, if any will be applied to your bursar's account.

In the event that you drop a lab course between the time you check in and the end of the semester, you will still be held responsible for checking out of your locker.  If you do not, Preproom staff will do so for you, and you will be charged a $10 service fee in addition to any missing, broken, or lost equipment.

ANY STUDENT WHO CHECKS IN TO A LOCKER MUST CHECK OUT OF THE LOCKER BEFORE THE LAST DAY OF LAB FINALS TO AVOID A $10 SERVICE FEE.

The last day to check out of a locker is usually the last day of lab finals, which always occurs before lecture finals begin.

If you have any questions about this policy, please send an e-mail to:  crunkel@u.arizona.edu

Lab Safety

You will also be required to obey all safety regulations.  These will be explained to you on the first meeting of your lab class.  If you do not already own them, you will be required to purchase splash proof goggles and a lab apron or lab coat.  The Chemistry Fraternity, Alpha Chi Sigma, will come around to the labs and sell these items or you may purchase them from the Chemistry Department's Storeroom, located in Old Chemistry, Room 104.

Individual Research Projects

Many courses require students to perform research projects.  To find more about this, click here:  IRPs.
