To be eligible, students must:

Be
full-time enrolled undergraduates majoring in Science Education with a
Chemistry emphasis (BSC SCED CHM), or be declared Chemistry majors (BS
or BA CHEM) with a commitment to becoming a chemistry teacher.

Demonstrate
continuing progress toward chemistry teacher licensure by:
completing STCH 250 with a
B grade or better and by
being currently enrolled in CHEM
439, STCH 310, 410, 420, 494A, or 496A.

Have
a GPA of at least 3.0
-
Be
citizens of the United States/permanent resident.
In addition:
- Preference is given to applicants who are in the Teacher
Preparation Program (BSC SCED CHM)
- Preference will be given to students with demonstrated
financial need when deciding between equally-qualified candidates.
- Selection shall be made without regard to gender, color,
race, creed or national origin.
- This scholarship is renewable at $6000 per year through the
teaching credential program, given that the student remains at the
university from where this scholarship was first received and as long as
the student remains eligible according to the above criteria.
- Funds will be distributed through the scholarship
recipient’s Bursar account no sooner than October 1st, when HSF
scholar’s names and required information is received by HSF.
Scholarship recipients must agree to:
- Update the
Department of Chemistry with valid contact information (name and
address) as necessary
- Be
photographed for a bio which will be sent to the Donor.
- Provide a
short statement of intent addressing their aspiration of contributing to
the teaching profession.
- Respond
annually to HSF with a very brief one to two sentence statement of their
career status for the first six years after graduation. This can be
sent to in the form of a letter, email, or phone call.

Deadline
Application packets are accepted year-round until August 15th.
No incomplete application packets will be accepted. In the event of
a large application pool, the Department may request to interview you
during the first week of the fall semester. Otherwise, you will be
notified of the Scholarship Committee's decision by September 1st.
