 Merck Undergraduate Travel Grants 2007-2008

Merck and Co, Inc. is pleased to offer a travel grant to be paid to a top undergraduate chemistry student for travel to a scientific conference! This year, Alysha Coppola has been selected to receive the award and will be presenting her research poster at the American Geophysical Union’s fall meeting in December 2007.

Program Details

  • Merck travel grants provide $1,000 in funding for analytical and/or physical chemistry undergraduate travel at the following institutions: Purdue University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of Indiana, University of Illinois, University of Wisconsin, and the University of Arizona. One award will be made at each school.

  • This award is to be used to fund travel to the conference of your choice and may be augmented with additional funds from your department as needed or given concurrently with other fellowships.

  • Travel should occur anytime during the 2007-2008 academic year or during the summer of 2008. The award may be made retroactively to sponsor travel that has already occurred during this period.

  • Travel grants are paid in one installment and awarded to the institution on the awardee’s behalf. Tuition is not to be paid out of the fellowship funding, nor is the university permitted to deduct any administrative costs.

To be eligible, applicants must:
  • Be full-time undergraduates working toward B.S. or B.A. degrees in analytical and/or physical chemistry and must have completed the first year of program study by the time of the conference sponsored. The grants will typically be awarded to persons in their junior or senior year.

  • Travel grants will be awarded based on an excellent track record on course work, outstanding research ability, and accomplishment.

  • Previous Merck travel grant recipients are not eligible for a second award, however candidates from previous years who did not receive a travel grant are encouraged to reapply.
