American Chemical Society Scholars Program

Van de Verde Undergraduate Research Scholarship in Science is funded by an endowment established as a memorial to the late Alice M. Van de Verde.  The award is $1500 renewable annually via competitive process.

  • Academic excellence and professional promise are factors in the selection of recipients.  Research project is required.  Open to Science undergraduates (College of Science majors only) not graduating before May 2008.  Click here for application Deadline is March 31, 2007.


Glen W. Vanice and Keith G. Reid Award for Scientific Research in Biomedical Fields was established from the Vanice Reid Trust to assist undergraduate, graduate, and professional students pursuing medical careers and conducting research in the areas of alcoholism, macular degeneration of the eye, cancer, human nutrition, or allergies.  Award is $1000 per year, renewable by re-application.

  • All candidates must be excelling academically and making timely progress towards their degree. Click here for application Deadline is March 31, 2007.


The Robert Carter Scholarship in Life Sciences was established to support undergraduates pursuing a degree in five life science majors. 

  • Eligible candidate shall be an undergraduate student majoring in any one of the following:  Biochemistry & Molecular Biophysics, Chemistry, Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, General Biology, or Molecular & Cellular Biology.  The student must be at least a Junior by Fall 2005 and have a cumulative GPA of 3.4 earned at the University of Arizona.  The student must be a resident of Arizona. American Chemical Society (ACS) Scholars Program:

Scholars program designed to be a CATALYST for African American, Hispanic/Latino and American Indian students seeking to pursue undergraduate college degrees in chemical sciences and chemical technology. IOTA SIGMA PI Undergraduate Award for Excellence in Chemistry:

The nominee shall be a senior woman chemistry student in an accredited college or university that grants a four year degree. The nominee may be, but need not be, a member of Iota Sigma Pi. The nomination dossier must contain:

  • Completed application form. (The application form is available in Word or pdf.)
  • The nominee's permanent and school addresses.
  • An official transcript of the student's college record including the grade point average.
  • Department Head certification of most recent grades if they are not included on the official transcript.
  • A list of the student's activities while in college and a statement of plans after graduation.
  • Two or more recommendations by faculty members.

Helen S. Schaefer Scholarship: for a woman in science or mathematics. 

All candidates for this scholarship are required to be female students in good standing entering their sophomore, junior or senior years of study at the University of Arizona with a  major in Science or Mathematics and have a grade point average of 3.5 or better. Deadline is March 23rd, 2007.


Galileo Circle Scholarship: College of Science scholarships funded by the generous contributions of the members of the Galileo Circle $1000 each. Students are Department-nominated only - no self nomination please.

  • full-time major in a College of Science undergraduate or graduate degree program; 3.2 minimum GPA. Scholarship candidates are invited to apply and recipients are selected by Department Heads.


ENVIRONMENTAL SCHOLARSHIP Southern Arizona Environmental Management Society (SAEMS) ...to encourage students planning to work on solutions to environmental problems

Eligibility

  • Applicant must be a current University of Arizona student for the 2007-2008 academic year
  • have a minimum GPA of 2.5
  • be a full or part-time student
  • plan on pursuing a career in the environmental arena.

Application Process

Two scholarships will be awarded. One full tuition and fees scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate student and one full tuition and fees scholarship will be awarded to a graduate student.  Click here for application; Postmark by March 15, 2007.


Leonard M. Rieser Fellowship provides annual one-time awards of $2500-5000 to between 3-5 undergraduates seeking to explore the connections between science, technology, global security, and public policy. The fellowship may be used for the following purposes:

  • To provide a stipend for an otherwise unpaid full-time internship

  • To provide for housing or a per diem for research conducted out of town

  • To underwrite the cost of travel or transportation to support academic research

  • For participation in or travel to professional conferences where the Fellow presents academic research or

  • To underwrite the production costs of a special project, ranging from lab work to the making of a documentary film.

Phi Beta Kappa Association of Greater Tucson seeks applicants for their Murphey Foundation Scholarship.  The scholarship is open to current UA students pursuing a bachelor's degree in either non-performing arts or sciences. Full-time students in sophomore, junior or senior class standing with a 3.50 cumulative GPA and demonstrated financial need are eligible to apply for this scholarship.  To download the application form and eligibility requirements, please visit http://scholar.web.arizona.edu/scholdonor.htm and click on the link for the  Phi Beta Kappa Association of Greater Tucson Murphey Foundation Scholarship.  The deadline for application is April 1.


United States Achievement Academy - National Collegiate Physical Sciences Award: 4-$10,000 and 250-$1500 cash grant awards given per year. Must be nominated based on the following USAA Official Standards for Selection :

- Responsibility

Students who are recognized by state or local officials such as all state, all region etc. are eligible for membership in the Academy's exclusive program. Nominations must be made by Feb 15th.


Scholarships For Teachers:

The UA Noyce Scholars Program is a loan forgiveness program for science and mathematics majors who wish to prepare themselves for teaching in high-need high schools and middle schools. The program is supported by the National Science Foundation. You may be eligible to apply for $7500/year that will be forgiven from repayment if, after graduating form the UA College of Science Teaching Program, you teach in a high need school. Hach Scientific Foundation Chemistry Teacher Scholarship

The UA Department of Chemistry is pleased to announce two annual scholarships ($6000 each) available to undergraduate chemistry students who are pursuing careers as chemistry teachers! Graduate Fellowships

The Richard A. Harvill Award (Graduate Fellowship)

Support: The fellowship provides an annual stipend of $12,000, disbursed in two payments. The fellowship is for one year and is not renewable.

Eligibility: University of Arizona senior undergraduates who have completed their Bachelor's Degree by May of the application year; who have a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.5 or higher (excluding the final semester grades); and have been admitted to the University of Arizona graduate PhD or a PhD-bound programs (for programs that require the student to finish a masters before they are admitted to the Ph.D). Fellows will be required to be enrolled for a minimum of 9 graduate units during the tenure of the fellowship.

Deadline: March 15, or the first workday following with tenure beginning the following fall semester.

Application Process:    
Submit the following materials by 5:00pm on the deadline date to the University of Arizona, Graduate College, Administration Building, Room 322. A committee comprised of University of Arizona faculty will review all complete applications.  Any materials submitted in addition to the list below will not be reviewed.

  1. Fellowship Cover Sheet to include applicants name, University SID, Undergraduate major, and University email address.
  2. Summary of the applicants goals for graduate education in three pages or  less.
  3. Letter of recommendation from a faculty member addressing the applicants ability to succeed in graduate school and other meritorious attributes.
